Since the formation of Columbia Engine Co. #1 four members have given their lives in the line of duty. We truly miss them and will never forget them.
Thomas Staab (Ex Chief)
Died at age 43 on 12/7/58

Ex-Chief Staab, who joined Columbia Engine Company on August 23, 1935, died as a result of injuries sustained while operating at a working house fire on the corner of Woods and Lincoln Avenue.
Vincent "Bink" Herbert (Ex Captain)
Died at age 44 on 4/29/62

Ex-Captain Herbert, who joined Columbia Engine Company on June 26, 1945, died as a result of injuries sustained at a Mutual Aid to the Baldwin Fire Department while operating at a Venetian Blind Factory fire, east of Westlake Court.
Dominic "Bubba" Lagudi (Chief)
Died at age 33 on 4/14/89

Chief Lagudi, who joined Columbia Engine Company on July 22, 1975, died as a result of injuries sustained while operating at a building fire on the corner of Long Beach Road and Davison Avenue.
Joseph Jarvis, Sr. (Ex Captain & Warden)
Died at age 54 on 5/19/94

Ex-Captain Jarvis, who joined Columbia Engine Company on November 26, 1963, died as a result of injuries sustained in the line of duty while operating at a train/vehicle collision at the Weidner Avenue Long Island Railroad Crossing.
